FAQs
What does Other Author Architecture do?
1
Other Author is an architecture and interior design practice founded by Clare Hačko, RA. We work across residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects — from early concept and feasibility through construction documents, regulatory approval, and built reality. We handle both the design and the project management, so clients have one trusted point of contact throughout.
Where do you work?
2
We're based in Upstate New York and work primarily across New York City, the Hudson Valley, the Catskills, and Upstate New York. If you're outside these areas and the project is compelling, we're open to the conversation.
Do I need an architect, or just a designer?
3
That depends on the scope of your project. Structural changes, additions, new construction, and most commercial work require a licensed architect by law. Interior redesigns, space planning, material selection, and furniture procurement don't always require licensure — but having a licensed architect handle both means your project is covered at every stage, from concept through permit.
What types of residential projects do you take on?
4
We work on gut renovations, additions, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), new construction, and interior design for homes of all scales. Whether you're reconfiguring a Hudson Valley farmhouse, renovating a Brooklyn apartment, or building something new on a rural property, we bring the same rigor and attention to every project.
What is your design process?
5
Every project begins with a feasibility conversation — we look at the site, the budget, zoning, and what's actually possible. From there we move through schematic design, design development, construction documents, and regulatory approval before handing off to a contractor. We stay involved through construction administration to make sure the built result matches the vision.
How do I get started?

Reach us at hello@otherauthor.com. We typically start with a brief conversation to understand your project scope, timeline, and budget before moving into a formal proposal.
We work with trusted contractors and can help you identify the right team for your project. Our role through construction is administration — reviewing submittals, conducting site visits, managing RFIs, and ensuring the work meets the design intent.
